The Girl in the mirror

Blood around her body, bruises on her arms and feet
I saw a girl lying on the ground covered with mud and dirt..
So I asked her 'Who did this to you?'
She just nodded and smiled back at me. 'Please don't bother, I'll be fine' she said.
I tried to help her up and again she replied 'Please don't bother, I'll be fine you'll see'.

Although she's trying to show she's tough and fake that she's alright
I saw her courage to get up but failed many times.
I can't help but rescue and attempt to carry her.
She just made a weary whisper 'Just help me walk, I'll be fine you'll see'.

We trek the woods and start our journey but her strength was almost gone.
So we decided to stop and help her sit beside the shade of a big tree.
As I stare at her brown eyes, tears begun to resemble.
Then she finally broke her silence and told me what had happened.

'I'm human who dreamt so big to fly like an angel.
Day and night I begged the sky to give me a pair of wings.
I really wanted to fly like an angel.'

As she continues her story, I noticed she's trying not to let her tears fall.
'One day I saw a man standing with blinding light, dress all in white,
clothe with heavenly dwelling,
immortal,
imperishable,
a messenger from above' she weakly whispered.

'That angel told me.' said the girl.
'I'm a visitor from heaven and was sent with good news you've long waited,
wear these angel's wings but let me warn you with these things.
Mortal you were made, mortal you shall fly ,
you are second to an angel and never greater than your Master with only one day to fly.
Never consume all your might or you will pay a great price.'

She bowed her head with sadness  and I saw teardrops begun to shed.
She continued 'I smiled back and said to that angel.."Like what you said,
I only wanted to fly" ..just fly..fly like an angel' answered by the girl.

'So I wore the pair of wings and felt sudden power,ready to fly up above,
he held my hands,we soared the sky, I chased the wind with all my might,  
I even beat the speed of light' she boasted.

She looked at me and asked,
'Would you believe me if I tell you I traveled the world beating the speed of light?'

I just stared at her and waited to continue her story.
She said 'But I forgot the angel's warning that I only have "one day to fly" and it came to pass that One day is not forever,
"One day is just one day but not forever".'

As I listened intensely to her story,
'With one last blow I tried to fly but Fate won't play with me.
I was reminded, "One day is One day" and that's how it should be,' said she.

'My wings suddenly disappeared and I found myself in the middle of both worlds.
Between heaven and earth I'm in the sky. Nowhere to go but fall down. Then it all turned out that my life is timebound, less than an hour I will die
with this body shattered on the ground' she brokenly uttered.

She looked at me with fear and cried, 'I'm not ready to face my doom, Lord save me, I prayed.
But the angel answered from above and said "I told you my dear, never consume all your might or you will pay a great price.
You will live so don't worry but this fall down will impair your walk and that's the price to pay".'

She sobbed and supplicated "I begged mercy to this angel, "Can I go back to my normal life? I don't want to be crippled for the rest of my life".'

Then there was a long silence.
For a moment I felt her pain and anguish but all I can do is stare.

With heavy heart she stated,
'The angel's final answer to my question is "No, you can't go back but everything will be alright".'


...then I woke up.

...when i looked up
...I saw the girl in the mirror
...with all the blood around her body... bruises on her arms and feet
...and I felt my body aching while holding a feather from an angel's wing.
